The Friends of Rocky Glen is a nonprofit organization formed in 2010 to protect Rocky Glen, a unique and historical geologic area in West Peoria, Illinois. Private property was purchased by the City of Peoria in December 2012 and deeded to the Peoria Park District to form Rocky Glen Park. With community financial support, a parking lot and trails were established, including signage and memorial benches. Rocky Glen Park is open to the public from dawn to dusk.

Friends of Rocky Glen Mission

We seek to build working coalitions among all the people of the watershed to promote sustainability in agriculture, our communities and in the natural world.

In 2021, The FORG Board expanded its vision to include the 400 square miles of Kickapoo Creek watershed, located almost entirely within Peoria County. As part of that work, the group hosts urban stream trash cleanups, educational events, and a large annual late summer Kickapoo Creek Festival held at Wildlife Prairie Park. Organization members grow native Illinois prairie plants from seed to sell at area farmers markets and in early May at Haddad’s Market in West Peoria. These plant sales are the group’s primary revenue source.

The Board of Directors is elected annually at the annual membership meeting, usually held in December or January. The Board then selects officers for the coming year. The Friends of Rocky Glen maintains transparent finances and efficient use of donated funds and grants.
